Asthma

Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It can cause wheezing, losing your breath, chest tightness,
and coughing. Asthma can be controlled by taking medicine and avoiding the triggers that can cause an attack.  If you are around things that trigger your asthma, it can become worse.

Asthma Tips

  1. Go over your asthma action plan with your doctor or nurse every year to make sure it’s up-to-date.
  2. Try to stay away from the things that make your asthma worse, like tobacco smoke, dust, pollen, and animal dander (skin Flakes).
  3. Mark your inhalers so you know which is your controller medicine and which is your quick-relief medicine.
  4. If you have a controller medicine, use it every day. Taking it at the same time each day may make it easier to remember.
  5. Always carry your quick-relief inhaler.
  6. To make sure you always have enough asthma medicine refill prescriptions before you run out.
  7. Tell your doctor or nurse about all medicines that you take, even the ones that don’t need a prescription.
  8. Ask your doctor or nurse if you should get a yearly flu shot and whether you should get the pneumonia vaccine.
